Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, is going through another round of layoffs. This follows their previous job cuts in 2022 and 2023, where they laid off a total of 21,000 employees. While the current layoffs are smaller in scale, they still affect employees across several key teams, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads.

One Meta employee, Jane Manchun Wong, took to Threads to share her experience of being laid off. In her post, she mentioned that she was still processing the news of her job loss and thanked her teammates for the journey they shared at Meta. She also encouraged people to reach out to her for potential collaborations, especially in the areas of software and security engineering.

Meta confirmed the layoffs in a statement given to The Verge. Dave Arnold, a Meta spokesperson, explained that the company is making changes to ensure resources are better aligned with their long-term goals and strategy. This restructuring also involves moving some teams to different locations and shifting some employees into new roles. However, the exact number of employees affected by these changes has not been disclosed.

Meta has been focusing on operating more efficiently, as stated by CEO Mark Zuckerberg back in March 2023. Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of a leaner organization, saying that a smaller workforce would help the company prioritize its most important tasks and allow employees to be more productive and satisfied with their work.

While Meta hasn’t released the full details of the current layoffs, it is clear that the company is continuing to restructure and adapt its workforce to better fit its long-term vision.
