The controversy began when Karthi, during a film event in Hyderabad on September 23, made a light-hearted comment about a meme involving the Tirupati laddu. His remark, “Ippudu laddu gurinchi maatladakodadu (we should not talk about laddu now), it’s a sensitive topic manakoddadi (we don’t want to discuss it),” was intended as a joke.
Despite its humorous context, the comment attracted criticism, particularly from Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan. At a media briefing in Vijayawada on September 24, Kalyan expressed his displeasure, urging celebrities to avoid making light of sensitive issues like the laddu controversy. He warned, “Don’t you ever dare to say that.”

Following the backlash, Karthi issued a public apology through social media, clarifying that his remark was not meant to offend anyone and that it was made in a playful context.
