PillBot, a groundbreaking swallowable robot developed by Endiatx, is poised to revolutionise non-invasive endoscopy. Measuring just 13mm by 30mm, this innovative device is designed to be easily ingested by patients. Equipped with micro cameras, sensors, motors, and LEDs, PillBot offers high-resolution imaging of the gastrointestinal tract, providing real-time data to doctors. The device is controlled via a handheld game controller and features a bio-compatible shell for safe ingestion.

How Does PillBot Work?

PillBot navigates through the digestive system, capturing detailed 2.3-megapixel video footage at a rate of 2.3 megapixels per second. The high-resolution video is transmitted wirelessly to a computer or mobile device, allowing healthcare providers to monitor the patient’s internal health from a distance. Unlike traditional endoscopic procedures, PillBot’s non-invasive nature means it can be used from the comfort of the patient’s home, potentially reducing the need for hospital visits and offering a more convenient diagnostic option.

Future Prospects

Currently, PillBot requires manual control by healthcare professionals, but future iterations are expected to incorporate AI-guided autonomous capabilities. This innovation could greatly enhance the efficiency and accessibility of gastrointestinal examinations, marking a significant advancement in medical technology.
