Chirag Paswan, often dubbed as ‘Modi’s Hanuman,’ has carved out a significant niche in Indian politics, recently appointed as the Minister of Food Processing in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third-term cabinet. His rise in politics reached a pivotal point with a decisive victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where his faction secured victories in all five contested seats, consolidating his standing and underscoring his political astuteness.
His triumph from the Hajipur constituency, previously held by his late father Ram Vilas Paswan, holds special significance as it continues his family’s enduring political legacy. Despite facing internal party conflicts stirred by his uncle Pashupati Paras, Chirag Paswan emerged victorious, showcasing resolute determination and effective leadership.
Before venturing into politics, Chirag Paswan briefly explored Bollywood, although his stint in the film industry was short-lived. Following the lukewarm reception of his debut film ‘Miley Naa Miley Hum’ (2011), where he starred alongside Kangana Ranaut, Paswan pivoted towards politics in 2012. This transition was motivated by a commitment to public service and honoring his father’s political legacy.
Educationally, Paswan initiated his journey at the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in Delhi. He initially pursued a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in Jhansi, affiliated with Bundelkhand University. However, he discontinued the program during his third semester to explore his interests in the arts, eventually leading him to Bollywood and subsequently into the political arena.
Paswan’s political ascent saw him contest and win the Jamui constituency in Bihar in both the 2014 and 2019 elections. In 2019, he assumed the presidency of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), cementing his stature as a key figure in Bihar’s political landscape.
As he assumes the responsibilities of the Ministry of Food Processing, expectations are high regarding Paswan’s potential to drive progress and development, particularly within Bihar. His ability to navigate internal party dynamics and lead his faction to electoral success underscores his strategic acumen and resilience.
Apart from his political achievements, Paswan’s personal assets include two cars—a Maruti Suzuki Gypsy (2015) and a Toyota Fortuner (2014)—valued at Rs 35 lakh, and fixed properties, including a house in Patna, valued at Rs 1.02 crore. According to his Election affidavit, Paswan’s total assets exceed Rs 2.68 crore, with movable assets valued at Rs 1.66 crore, including investments in cash, bank deposits, shares, and gold jewellery amounting to Rs 14.40 lakh.
