Akshata Murty, daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy, significantly outpaced her husband, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, in earnings. Murty’s income vastly exceeded Sunak’s, with her estimated GBP 13 million (approximately Rs 130 crore) in dividends dwarfing his GBP 2.2 million (around Rs 20 crore). This substantial difference of GBP 10.8 million (Rs 110 crore) underscores the financial prowess Murty brings to the couple’s combined fortune, surpassing the wealth of King Charles.

The couple continues to cement their status among the UK’s wealthiest, as reflected in the 2024 edition of the ‘Sunday Times Rich List.’ Their estimated wealth has surged to GBP 651 million (Rs 6860 crore), elevating them from 275th place last year to 245th this year. This ascent marks them as the “wealthiest people to call 10 Downing Street home.” Central to their fortune is Murty’s significant shareholding in Infosys, which has seen considerable growth over the past year.

Infosys shares have appreciated by GBP 108.8 million, bringing their total value to nearly GBP 590 million. The latest annual report reveals that Murty received approximately GBP 13 million in dividends last year, adding to her substantial earnings from previous years. Projections indicate she is set to receive an additional GBP 10.5 million in dividends this year, further enhancing her financial standing.

The annual ‘Sunday Times Rich List’ once again highlights the financial dominance of Indian-origin families in the UK. Topping the list are the Hinduja family, whose wealth has soared to GBP 37.196 billion, bolstered by the inauguration of their new luxury OWO Hotel in central London.
