Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy expresses regret for not allowing his wife, Sudha Murthy, to be a part of Infosys when it was established. Sudha had purchased INR 10,000 worth of Infosys shares in 1981, initiating its foundation. Narayana Murthy, despite believing in Sudha’s capabilities, did not permit family members to join the company at that time.

During that era, many businesses failed, and Murthy acknowledges that not all ventures were successful. This realization led him to regret excluding his family from becoming a part of Infosys’ journey. He emphasizes that the decision was based on principles and not personal capabilities.

Sudha Murthy, a renowned author and social worker, purchased Infosys shares but was not allowed to be a part of the company during its inception. Narayana Murthy acknowledges the decision was not based on her abilities, as she later proved to be a skilled entrepreneur. Sudha Murthy’s investment in Infosys shares played a crucial role in the company’s initial stages.

Narayana Murthy reveals that at that time, it was not common for family members to be involved in corporate governance. However, he later regretted this decision as Sudha Murthy went on to establish herself as a successful entrepreneur. Despite his son Rohan being associated with Infosys, Narayana Murthy expresses remorse for not allowing Sudha Murthy to contribute to the company’s early years.

Narayana Murthy played a key role in founding Infosys in 1981, along with Nandan Nilekani, S Gopalakrishnan, SD Shibulal, K Dinesh, NS Raghavan, and Ashok Arora. He served as the CEO of Infosys from 1981 to 2002. After stepping down in 2011, he later served as the Chairman of the company’s executive board.
