The Ministry of External Affairs has appointed Vishwesh Negi as India’s next Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran. A 2002-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Negi is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the ministry and is expected to take up the assignment in Tehran soon.

Negi will succeed Rudra Gaurav Shresth, who has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Türkiye. The appointment comes at a strategically important time as India continues to engage closely with Iran on regional security, connectivity and energy-related issues.
His posting is seen as significant given the evolving geopolitical landscape in West Asia and India’s emphasis on maintaining strong diplomatic ties with key regional partners through dialogue and cooperation.
