The Indian government has announced a reduction of Rs 200 in the cost of cooking gas LPG cylinders, bringing relief to over 10 crore households across the country.
The decision, aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers, also includes the expansion of the Ujjwala scheme, ensuring increased access to affordable LPG connections.

Effective immediately, the cost of domestic LPG cylinders used for cooking purposes will be reduced by Rs 200. Previously priced at Rs 1,103 per 14.2-kg cylinder in New Delhi, the revised price now stands at Rs 903 per cylinder. This initiative marks a substantial relief for consumers and aligns with the government’s commitment to providing essential commodities at more affordable rates.
Ujjwala Scheme Expansion
The Ujjwala scheme, designed to provide free LPG connections to women in rural households, will witness a surge in its impact. The latest government announcement includes the provision of 75 lakh new connections under the scheme. This expansion is expected to extend the benefits of the scheme to an estimated 10.35 crore individuals, enhancing access to clean and efficient cooking solutions.
Enhanced Benefits for Ujjwala Beneficiaries
Individuals already enrolled in the Ujjwala Yojana are set to gain even more from this development. Previously availing a Rs 200 subsidy on LPG cylinders, these beneficiaries paid Rs 903 per cylinder. With the new price reduction, their payment will further decrease by Rs 200, resulting in a cost of only Rs 703 for a cylinder. This augmentation of benefits underscores the government’s commitment to empowering economically vulnerable sections of society.
