As part of the Phase-2 Rolling Stock Contract Agreement between Alstom and Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, the former received a Rs 946 crore order from the latter. The order is for 26 three-car driverless trains and it includes design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of the trains, training of personnel, supply of spare parts and defect liability.
The agreement was signed by Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations), CMRL and Rajeev Joisar, Commercial Director – India & South Asia, Alstom Transport India Ltd. Alstom will deliver the first train to CMRL in August 2024 at the Poonamallee depot. CMRL will test the train for 14 months. The remaining trains will be delivered between November 2024 and August 2025.
