The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced technology-enabled on-board services in five superfast trains to improve cleanliness, hygiene and passenger comfort. The initiative covers three regular train services and two Vande Bharat Express routes, with upgrades including AI-based cleaning assessments, digital monitoring and faster complaint resolution.

With this initiative, NFR has become the second railway zone in India to introduce these enhanced on-board services, according to railway officials.
Five Trains to Receive Enhanced On-Board Services
The upgraded facilities have been introduced on the following trains:
- Kamakhya–SMVT Bengaluru Express
- Guwahati–Kolkata Garib Rath Express
- Dibrugarh–Mumbai LTT Express
- New Jalpaiguri–Patna Vande Bharat Express
- New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express
According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Guwahati–Kolkata Garib Rath Express and Dibrugarh–Mumbai LTT Express began receiving the enhanced services on October 10 and 11, respectively. The two Vande Bharat Express services and the Kamakhya–SMVT Bengaluru Express introduced the facilities on October 14.
Improved Cleaning and Passenger Assistance
The initiative focuses on maintaining cleaner coaches and better passenger facilities throughout the journey. Regular coach cleaning, improved maintenance of air-conditioned windows and washrooms, efficient waste disposal, and timely distribution and collection of bed linen are among the key services.
Dedicated teams will also provide basic technical assistance, monitor water availability and address passenger complaints. To improve grievance redressal, the railway has set a target of resolving complaints within two hours. Issues that remain unresolved will be escalated to the appropriate railway authorities.
Digital Monitoring and AI-Based Cleaning Assessments
Technology plays a central role in the upgraded services. The system includes geo-tagged verification of housekeeping activities, staff tracking and centralised digital monitoring to improve accountability and ensure consistent service delivery.
Passenger feedback and star ratings will help railway officials evaluate service quality. AI-based cleaning assessments will also be used to measure housekeeping performance, identify shortcomings and determine areas that require improvement.
Focus on Better Hygiene and Travel Comfort
Through the initiative, Northeast Frontier Railway aims to strengthen cleanliness standards and provide passengers with a more comfortable travel experience. By combining technology-driven housekeeping, digital supervision and quicker complaint resolution, the railway intends to improve the quality and consistency of on-board services across the five selected trains.
