Hyundai Motor Group has announced plans to invest $15.5 billion (around ₹1.47 lakh crore) in India between 2026 and 2032, strengthening the country’s role in its global manufacturing and technology strategy. The investment will cover manufacturing expansion, research and development (R&D), supplier localisation and emerging mobility businesses across Hyundai and Kia’s Indian operations.

The announcement followed a meeting between Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 13, 2026. The group said the investment is intended to support employment, strengthen local partnerships and position India as a global automotive export hub.
Manufacturing and Product Expansion
Hyundai plans to introduce 26 new models and updates in India by 2030, according to its previously announced product roadmap. The plans include electric vehicles, SUVs and advanced driver-assistance technologies. The company is also targeting greater localisation, with a goal of sourcing 90% of vehicle content locally by 2030.
Kia is also preparing to expand its electrified vehicle portfolio. Its roadmap includes eight electrified models, combining electric vehicles and hybrids, by the end of the decade. The group’s investment is expected to support higher production volumes and a broader range of powertrain technologies.
$700 Million for Research and Development
Around $700 million of the investment is planned for India’s R&D infrastructure, including expansion of the group’s research centre and development of a vehicle testing track. The focus will be on next-generation automotive technologies and building local engineering capabilities.
The group will also establish a dedicated investment entity in India to coordinate capital deployment, identify local partners and strengthen collaboration with suppliers. Other areas under consideration include EV charging infrastructure, automotive financing, vehicle recycling, startup support and new mobility services.
India’s Growing Manufacturing Role
Hyundai Motor Group currently has combined annual manufacturing capacity of more than 1.4 million vehicles in India. This includes Hyundai facilities in Chennai and Pune, along with Kia’s plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Pune’s capacity is scheduled to expand in phases.
The group employs more than 24,000 people in India and expects the investment programme to generate additional employment across manufacturing, engineering, R&D and the supply chain. However, the company has not disclosed a detailed annual investment schedule or a specific job-creation target.
The investment reinforces India’s importance to Hyundai Motor Group’s long-term plans as it expands production, develops local technologies and strengthens its presence in the global automotive market.
