Ravindra Kishore Sinha began his career as a journalist in Patna with a monthly salary of around ₹250. In 1974, he founded Security and Intelligence Services (SIS) after socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan encouraged him to help retired army personnel find jobs as security guards.

What began as an effort to create employment gradually grew into a diversified business-services group. SIS expanded from security services into cash logistics and facility management, while also investing in training and technology. The company introduced computers for organisational processes as early as 1989.
SIS later expanded across India and internationally, including Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. The company went public in 2017, with acquisitions becoming an important part of its expansion strategy.
Sinha’s son, Rituraj Kishore Sinha, joined the business in 2002 and later became managing director. According to the company’s latest annual report, SIS recorded consolidated revenue of around ₹16,000 crore in FY26, with more than 3.5 lakh employees across its operations.
