India and Vietnam have agreed to more than double their weekly flight capacity, increasing the bilateral limit from around 8,000 seats to over 16,000 seats. The new capacity is effective immediately.
The move comes as airlines in both countries are seeing strong demand for travel and have nearly exhausted their existing flying rights under the current agreement.
Indian airlines IndiGo and Air India currently operate around 30 flights a week to Vietnam, while Vietnamese airlines operate about 48 flights, according to data from Cirium.
With the increased capacity, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet are expected to add more flights to major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.
Vietnam’s Sun PhuQuoc Airlines is also planning to launch flights between Mumbai and Vietnam.
Vietnam Airlines said demand from India has grown significantly, helped by better air connectivity. The airline also sees an opportunity to attract premium travellers with its A350 aircraft.
This is the second time India and Vietnam have increased their bilateral seat capacity since 2024, as travel between India and Southeast Asia continues to grow.
