Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, has extended N. Chandrasekaran’s tenure as executive chairman by another five years.

Chandrasekaran had earlier indicated his intention to step down from the position. However, the Tata Sons board, at a meeting in Mumbai, decided to reappoint him for another term.
The extension comes as the Tata Group prepares for key strategic initiatives, including preparations related to a potential initial public offering (IPO) of Tata Sons.
Chandrasekaran has led Tata Sons since 2017 and has overseen the group’s businesses across technology, automobiles, aviation, consumer products, financial services and other sectors.
His extended tenure is expected to provide continuity in the group’s leadership as Tata Sons works on its long-term business strategy and corporate restructuring plans.
The decision also comes at an important stage for Tata Sons as the group continues to evaluate its corporate structure and prepare for regulatory and strategic requirements linked to its future plans.
