Indian Railways has recorded its highest-ever single-day ticket bookings through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), with 22.26 lakh tickets booked in a single day. The milestone highlights the massive demand for train travel across the country.
The record was achieved amid the start of advance bookings for the festive travel season, when demand for confirmed berths typically rises sharply. Indian Railways began accepting bookings for Diwali travel from September 6, adding to the pressure on the reservation system.
The Passenger Reservation System has become a crucial part of railway travel, allowing passengers to reserve seats and berths across the national network through digital and reservation channels.
The surge also reflects the growing reliance on online ticketing. IRCTC has recently upgraded its digital infrastructure to handle heavy booking volumes, particularly during peak periods when thousands of passengers compete for tickets as soon as reservations open.
The record booking figure comes as Indian Railways prepares for another busy festive travel season, with additional trains and capacity measures being introduced on several routes to manage the expected passenger rush.
