India and Armenia are strengthening their defence partnership, with nearly $2 billion worth of defence contracts signed between the two countries since 2020.
The latest development is a new agreement covering defence research, development, innovation and joint production. The agreement marks a shift from India primarily supplying defence equipment to deeper industrial cooperation.
India’s defence exports to Armenia include the Akash air-defence system, Pinaka rocket launchers and Swathi weapon-locating radars, along with counter-drone technologies and other artillery systems.
For India, Armenia has emerged as an important overseas market for indigenous defence technology and a showcase for its growing defence-export ambitions. For Armenia, the partnership offers an opportunity to diversify its defence supplies beyond traditional sources.
The expanding relationship could further strengthen India’s position as a global defence exporter.
