Raghavendra Rao’s entrepreneurial journey began far from the restaurant industry. After leaving engineering to pursue acting, he spent years taking up jobs in hotels and restaurants across cities to support himself. The experience gave him deep insights into hospitality and food operations, laying the foundation for a future business venture.
In 2021, Raghavendra and his wife Divya Raghavendra Rao, a Chartered Accountant and IIM Ahmedabad alumna, co-founded The Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru. Starting with a 700-square-foot outlet, the bootstrapped business has expanded across multiple cities while remaining focused on authentic South Indian cuisine and operational excellence.

The company reported strong growth in FY25, with revenue rising significantly as it continued expanding without external funding. The founders now have plans for international expansion, demonstrating how resilience, operational expertise and a clear vision transformed an unconventional career journey into a successful restaurant brand.
