The Ministry of Railways has approved a ₹272 crore project to build a new 17-km railway line connecting Khunia More to Jaldhaka in North Bengal. The strategic rail link is aimed at improving connectivity to areas near the India-China-Bhutan tri-junction while also supporting economic development and tourism in the Dooars region.
The new alignment will pass through parts of the Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong forest divisions before reaching Jaldhaka, enhancing transport access in a strategically important border region. The project is expected to improve civilian mobility while strengthening infrastructure in the sensitive northeastern corridor.
Officials say the railway line will benefit local communities, promote tourism and reinforce India’s border connectivity strategy through improved transport infrastructure in North Bengal.
