NASA has selected astronaut Deniz Burnham for her first mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Burnham will serve as a flight engineer on Expedition 76 and is scheduled to launch aboard the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-30 spacecraft in March 2027 from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome. She will fly alongside Russian cosmonauts Dmitri Petelin and Konstantin Borisov.
The mission is expected to last about seven months, during which Burnham will carry out scientific research and technology demonstrations aimed at supporting future human missions to the Moon and Mars, while also advancing research with benefits for life on Earth.
Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, Burnham completed her astronaut training in 2024. Before joining NASA, she worked in the energy industry, served as a U.S. Navy Reserve engineering duty officer, and gained experience as a licensed private pilot. Her assignment marks a significant milestone in her spaceflight career and continues NASA’s long-term human space exploration programme.
