Indian Railways is set to roll out a new token system for Tatkal ticket bookings at reservation counters from August 1, aiming to make the booking process faster, more transparent and passenger-friendly. The initiative is designed to reduce long queues and overcrowding at railway reservation offices during peak booking hours.

Under the revised process, passengers will first receive a numbered token before booking opens. Reservation counters will then process bookings according to the token sequence, ensuring an orderly and fair system instead of first-come queue rushes. Separate token distribution timings have also been introduced for AC and non-AC Tatkal bookings.
Railway officials say the move will improve crowd management, minimize confusion at booking counters and reduce opportunities for touts and middlemen. The new system is expected to make Tatkal reservations more efficient while offering a smoother experience for genuine passengers.
