Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formed a six-member High-Powered Task Force to recommend reforms in India’s examination system, with Infosys co-founder and Aadhaar architect Nandan Nilekani at the helm.
The panel will examine structural and technological changes aimed at making national-level examinations more secure, transparent and reliable. Its members include former ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Higher Education Secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
The task force comes amid growing concerns over examination irregularities and paper leaks. The government has said the panel will focus on strengthening the examination ecosystem and improving the credibility of the National Testing Agency’s examinations through technology-driven and institutional reforms.
The recommendations of this committee will be crucial in preventing question paper leakage and implementing uniform procedures at examination centres. The government aims to comprehensively overhaul the examination process, including the production and distribution of question papers, digital verification of candidates and declaration of results. The government has made it clear that the recommendations will be strictly implemented as soon as the committee’s report is received and that it will move forward with strong legislation against examination irregularities.
