Tata Consultancy Services is expanding its AI infrastructure ambitions with land acquisitions in Visakhapatnam and Pune, potentially paving the way for data centres linked to OpenAI’s growing requirements in India.
TCS has acquired a 200-acre land parcel in Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, close to the Google-Adani campus. The company has also purchased an 88-acre plot in Bopkhel, Pune, for around ₹641 crore.
The land acquisitions come as TCS explores opportunities to develop large-scale hyperscale data centres. The company is reportedly in advanced discussions with OpenAI and is evaluating multiple locations for future AI infrastructure.
The proposed TCS-OpenAI data centre partnership could become the third major alliance between a global AI company and an Indian firm, following Google-Adani and Meta-Reliance partnerships.
TCS is also reportedly planning significant data centre capacity, including 100 MW for OpenAI and 200 MW for AMD, while discussions with AWS are also underway.
The move highlights India’s growing importance as a global AI infrastructure hub, with companies racing to build the data centre capacity needed to support the next generation of artificial intelligence.
