Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to convey his condolences on the passing of the Father Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

During the conversation, Modi paid tribute to Sheikh Hamad’s leadership, describing him as the chief architect of modern Qatar. He also recalled the Father Amir’s significant contribution to strengthening India-Qatar relations and his deep affection for India and the Indian community living in Qatar.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the Father Amir’s enduring legacy would continue to guide both countries as they further deepen their strategic partnership.
India had earlier declared a day of national mourning to honour the late Father Amir, recognising his role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
Qatar remains one of India’s key partners in the Gulf region, hosting a large Indian diaspora and serving as a major supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India.
According to the Indian government, Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim thanked Prime Minister Modi for his condolences and appreciated India’s support during the difficult period. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward the Father Amir’s legacy by expanding strategic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people ties.
Both leaders also agreed to remain in close contact as India and Qatar continue to deepen their long-standing partnership.
