India and Afghanistan held a Joint Committee Meeting on Thursday to provide fresh momentum to their bilateral development partnership, coinciding with the visit of Afghanistan’s Agriculture Minister.

The meeting, led by the foreign ministries of both countries, reviewed the overall scope of bilateral relations, including humanitarian assistance, development cooperation, food security, healthcare, capacity building, education, sports, trade, visas and connectivity.
During the discussions, India reiterated its continued commitment to supporting the welfare and development needs of the Afghan people. The Afghan side appreciated India’s ongoing support and cooperation across various sectors.
The meeting was co-chaired by M Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary (Pakistan Afghanistan Iran) at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Shuaib Baryalai, Director General of the First Political Division at Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mawlawi Ataullah Omari met India’s Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, where both sides agreed to work towards establishing a Joint Working Group for agriculture and livestock cooperation.
The proposed group will help create a long-term roadmap, encourage regular engagement and identify new opportunities for collaboration in farming and animal husbandry.
The latest discussions reflect efforts by both countries to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors and continue engagement on development-focused initiatives.
