BSNL has launched a satellite phone priced at ₹1,34,166, making it costlier than Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro. Unlike conventional smartphones, the device is built to provide reliable communication in locations where terrestrial mobile networks are unavailable.

The satellite phone supports satellite-based voice calling, emergency connectivity and extended battery life, making it suitable for defence personnel, disaster management teams, maritime operations, remote expeditions and other mission-critical users. It communicates directly through satellites instead of relying on mobile towers.
While the high price may surprise consumers, satellite phones are specialised communication devices built for reliability rather than entertainment or everyday use. They are designed to function in forests, mountains, oceans and disaster-hit regions where conventional cellular networks often fail.
With this launch, BSNL is expanding its specialised communication offerings for sectors that require uninterrupted connectivity in challenging environments, highlighting the growing importance of satellite communications in India’s telecom ecosystem.
