Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Indonesia and Australia are expected to play a significant role in strengthening India’s clean energy, manufacturing and strategic ambitions. A key focus of the Australia leg is securing access to critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt and nickel, which are essential for electric vehicle batteries and advanced technologies.
Australia is one of the world’s leading producers of these minerals, making it a crucial partner for India’s growing EV ecosystem. Greater cooperation could help India reduce import dependence, strengthen domestic battery manufacturing and support its transition to clean mobility.

The visit will also include discussions on uranium supplies, defence cooperation, trade, investment and supply chain resilience. Both countries are expected to explore new opportunities to deepen economic and strategic partnerships across multiple sectors.
Together with the Indonesia visit, the tour reflects India’s broader Indo-Pacific strategy and its efforts to build stronger partnerships that support long-term economic growth, energy security and advanced manufacturing.
