Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has earned international acclaim by winning the UITP Impact Award 2026 for its innovative and sustainable multimodal transport integration project that connects metro rail, water metro, feeder services, and non-motorised mobility systems.

The award was presented at the UITP Awards 2026 ceremony held in Brussels, Belgium.

Organised by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), the awards are among the most respected global recognitions in the public transport sector, celebrating innovative mobility solutions from across the world.
KMRL was recognised for its project titled “Kochi Metro Rail: A Sustainable Multi Modal Integration Project for Better Connectivity”.
Integrated Mobility System for Kochi
The project brings together multiple transport modes including metro rail, Kochi Water Metro, electric feeder buses, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, bicycle-sharing systems, and digital mobility platforms.
This integrated system ensures seamless connectivity and aims to reduce travel time, improve last-mile connectivity, and lower carbon emissions.
Leadership in Sustainable Transport
KMRL has been widely recognised for promoting eco-friendly urban mobility through initiatives such as the Water Metro, electric feeder services, integrated ticketing systems, and transit-oriented development.
