The Miyazaki mango from Japan has earned global attention as one of the world’s most expensive fruits, with premium pairs reportedly selling for nearly ₹3 lakh at auctions. Known as “Taiyo-no-Tomago” or “Egg of the Sun,” the luxury mango is famous for its deep ruby-red colour, exceptional sweetness, and silky fibreless texture.

The mangoes are grown in Japan’s Miyazaki prefecture under highly controlled greenhouse conditions. Farmers carefully monitor sunlight, humidity, and temperature throughout the cultivation process to maintain premium quality standards. Each fruit is individually protected using mesh nets and positioned to receive even sunlight exposure.
Only select fruits qualify for the prestigious “Egg of the Sun” label after strict inspections based on size, sugar content, appearance, and weight. Reports say each mango must weigh over 350 grams and meet high sweetness standards before entering premium auctions in Japan.
The Miyazaki mango’s rarity and labour-intensive farming methods are major reasons behind its extraordinary price. Some premium lots have reportedly sold for around 600,000 Japanese yen, equivalent to roughly ₹3 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh for a pair.
The exotic mango variety has also attracted attention in India, with farmers in Bihar, Odisha, Karnataka, and other regions experimenting with cultivation. However, experts say replicating the exact Japanese growing conditions remains a major challenge.
