Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio are holding crucial diplomatic talks in New Delhi. Rubio arrived in India this morning on a four-day official visit and reached the capital this afternoon after completing his engagements in Kolkata.

Before arriving in India, Rubio had described India as one of America’s strongest partners and allies, adding that the visit was important because both countries had significant opportunities to work together.
The meeting and discussions between the two leaders are taking place at Seva Teerth venue in Delhi. This marks Rubio’s first visit to India since assuming office as US Secretary of State last year.
Along with strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries, the discussions are also expected to focus on emerging global challenges.
Energy cooperation is likely to be a key priority, especially in the context of the ongoing US-Iran conflict and its impact on India’s energy security. Other major agenda items include resolving recent trade disputes related to US tariffs on Indian goods and expanding cooperation in defence and technology sectors.
As part of his visit, Rubio will also hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and participate in the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting in Delhi. He is also scheduled to visit Agra and Jaipur.
With US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi both showing strong personal interest in maintaining close ties between the two countries, the visit is being seen as diplomatically significant.
