BEML has unveiled India’s first indigenously developed 35-tonne electric dump truck designed to support zero-emission and high-productivity mining operations. The launch marks a major milestone in India’s heavy equipment and green mining sector.
The electric dump truck features a high-efficiency electric drivetrain with reported efficiency levels of 85–90 percent and is expected to deliver up to 70 percent energy savings compared to conventional diesel-powered mining trucks.

According to reports, the vehicle has been engineered specifically for harsh mining environments and includes fast-charging capabilities, regenerative braking systems, advanced thermal battery management, and onboard diagnostics for predictive maintenance and fleet management.
BEML officials say the truck is aimed at reducing operational costs, lowering emissions, and supporting India’s broader sustainability and ESG goals across the mining and industrial sectors. Analysts believe such electric heavy vehicles could significantly reduce fuel dependence and maintenance costs in large-scale mining operations.
The truck was developed and manufactured in India, reinforcing the country’s “Make in India” and self-reliance initiatives in advanced industrial manufacturing and clean technology. Experts say the launch positions India among the growing number of countries investing in electric heavy mining equipment and sustainable industrial infrastructure.
