Indian-American technology leader Shantanu Narayen will step down as the Chief Executive Officer of Adobe after an 18-year tenure that transformed the company into one of the world’s most successful software firms.
Narayen became CEO in 2007 and is widely credited with leading Adobe through a major strategic shift, from selling traditional packaged software to a cloud-based subscription model. This transition led to the launch and expansion of platforms such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Document Cloud, which significantly boosted the company’s recurring revenue.

During his leadership, Adobe strengthened its position in digital media, creative design tools, and marketing technology. The company also expanded into artificial intelligence-powered creative solutions, further cementing its dominance in the global software industry.
Over the past two decades, Adobe’s market value and global influence have grown dramatically, making Narayen one of the most respected technology executives of Indian origin in Silicon Valley.
His departure marks the end of a transformative era for Adobe, with the company now preparing for its next phase of leadership and innovation.
