India has begun supplying 5,000 tonnes of diesel to Bangladesh through the cross-border Bangladesh–India Friendship Pipeline, helping the neighbouring country manage fuel supply concerns. The shipment is being transported from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam to the Parbatipur depot in northern Bangladesh.
The delivery forms part of an existing bilateral agreement under which India is expected to supply around 180,000 tonnes of diesel annually to Bangladesh through the pipeline. Officials said the current 5,000-tonne consignment is the first batch under this arrangement, with larger volumes planned in the coming months.
Bangladesh has been closely monitoring its fuel stocks amid global energy disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions and supply uncertainties. The diesel shipment is expected to help stabilise supplies for power generation, transport, and industry in the country.
Operational since 2023, the Bangladesh–India Friendship Pipeline enables direct fuel transport between the two countries, reducing delivery time and logistics costs while strengthening regional energy cooperation.
