MatsyaFed could become India’s Amul, says Minister

Union Minister George Kurian says the Centre is ready to help develop MatsyaFed into a national-level cooperative like Amul if Kerala submits a proposal, offering financial support and coordination under the PM Vikas scheme.

Union Minister of State for Fisheries, George Kurian, said the Centre is prepared to develop MatsyaFed into a national-level cooperative similar to Amul, if the Kerala government submits a proposal. Speaking at a workshop under the PM Vikas scheme held at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Vizhinjam near Thiruvananthapuram, he added that the government would provide the necessary financial support for the initiative.

The Minister emphasized that significant growth in the fisheries sector requires close coordination between the Centre and the State. The workshop was organised under the Matsya Shakti project as part of the PM Vikas scheme.
