The Infopark Phase III project is set to become a major hub for information technology, IT-enabled services, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies, strengthening Kochi’s position as a technology and innovation centre.

Investments in Kochi Metro and Innovation Zones
The state budget has allocated ₹79 crore for the second phase of Kochi Metro, which is currently under construction. Additionally, ₹20 crore has been earmarked for establishing a Technology Innovation Zone in Kochi. These investments aim to enhance urban infrastructure, improve mobility, and promote technological innovation in the region.
Concerns Over Budget Allocation
Not all stakeholders are satisfied with the budget. Kochi Mayor V K Minimol expressed disappointment, noting that aside from metro funding, the budget did not adequately focus on Ernakulam district, which contributes significantly to the state’s revenue. Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden echoed similar concerns, stating that Kochi did not receive the recognition it deserves in the 2026-27 budget.
Positive Reception from Business Community
The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Kochi, welcomed the budget, describing it as forward-looking and people-focused. ICCI praised the government for supporting welfare schemes, promoting SMEs and startups, and investing in infrastructure and green transport.
ICCI Kochi President Rajkumar Gupta stated that the budget lays a strong foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth. He added that the chamber is committed to collaborating with the government to ensure successful implementation of these projects and initiatives for the benefit of the state and its residents.
