Maithili Thakur has created a stir in Bihar’s political landscape by winning the Alinagar seat on a BJP ticket. At 25, she is now one of the youngest elected representatives in the state, and her win has earned wide praise across the Mithila region. People who admired her for her music and grounded personality are now celebrating her shift into public life.

Early struggles before the spotlight
Before stepping into politics, Maithili faced a long stretch of setbacks as a young singer. As a child, she auditioned for several music reality shows but was turned away each time. She tried her luck at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs and other well-known competitions, only to fall short. Even her Indian Idol Junior audition didn’t take her to the final round. All this happened while she and her family were working intensely to support her training and dreams.
Breakthrough on Rising Star
Her turning point arrived in 2017 when she earned a spot on Rising Star. Her devotional pieces struck a chord with viewers across the country. She reached the final and ended as runner-up, missing the title by just two votes, but the visibility changed the course of her career.
Building a cultural presence online
After the show, Maithili turned to social media with a renewed focus. She began uploading classical, folk and devotional songs, often accompanied by her brothers. Her videos picked up momentum quickly, helping her build a strong digital following and turning her into a prominent voice representing Mithila’s cultural heritage.
A family rooted in music
Born on July 25, 2000, in Madhubani, Bihar, Maithili grew up in a home where music was part of everyday life. Her father, Ramesh Thakur, a classical vocalist, trained her from childhood, while her mother, Pooja Thakur, kept the family running. Along with her brothers Ayachi and Rishabh, she forms a musical trio dedicated to preserving and sharing India’s folk traditions.
