Government Warns About Fake RBI Messages

PIB Clarifies That RBI Has Not Issued Any New Guidelines for Exchanging Old ₹500 and ₹1000 Notes, Warns Citizens Not to Forward Fake Messages and Advises Verification Through Official Sources.

Recently, several posts circulating on social media and some online news platforms claimed that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had issued new guidelines for exchanging old ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has now confirmed that these reports are entirely false.

RBI old currency exchange fake news clarification

According to PIB, the RBI has not released any such notification. For reliable and official information regarding currency or financial matters, the RBI’s website (https://rbi.org.in) remains the sole trusted source.

Citizens are advised not to forward unverified messages. In case of receiving suspicious messages, photos, or videos related to government announcements, individuals can verify their authenticity by contacting the PIB Fact Check team via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 or by email at [email protected].

This clarification aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure that the public relies only on verified sources for financial updates.
