Abu Dhabi has been selected as the venue for the IPL 2026 auction, thanks to its top-tier facilities and extensive experience in hosting major cricket events. Its proximity to India and ability to handle large-scale sporting productions make it convenient for both franchises and broadcasters.

According to India Today, the auction is likely to take place around December 15 or 16, with official confirmation expected soon. This marks the third consecutive year the IPL auction will be held outside India, following Dubai in 2024 and Jeddah in 2025. The decision reflects the league’s ongoing preference for hosting major events in the Gulf.
Unlike last year’s mega auction in Saudi Arabia, the upcoming IPL auction will be a mini-auction, with teams expected to make targeted squad additions rather than complete overhauls.
Franchises are currently finalising player retentions ahead of the November 15 deadline, likely releasing a few high-value players to free up funds. Abu Dhabi will now host coaches, scouts, and franchise officials as they plan their strategies and make key player selections for the upcoming season.
