Malayalam cinema icon and honorary Indian Army officer Lt Col (Hony) Mohanlal was awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card by General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi on October 7, 2025. The recognition celebrates his sustained contribution to society and his long-standing association with the Armed Forces.
Mohanlal, who was recently honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, first received his honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in May 2009. Speaking after receiving the commendation, he described it as a “great honour” and a “warm gesture” from a fraternity he has proudly served for 16 years.

In a brief interaction with the media, the actor said he has always tried to do his part for the Army and for the welfare of civilians. He also shared that his meeting with the Army Chief included a discussion on improving the efficiency of Territorial Army battalions and exploring new ways to contribute to the nation. “It was a small discussion,” he said, “but we have bigger plans ahead.”
When asked about future film projects related to the armed forces, Mohanlal said he has portrayed many such roles throughout his career, a body of work that often celebrates the spirit of duty and patriotism.With a career spanning over four decades, Mohanlal remains one of India’s most respected actors. His list of national honours includes the Padma Shri (2001) and the Padma Bhushan (2019), now joined by the Army’s commendation, marking another milestone in his remarkable journey across cinema and public service.
