India and the United Kingdom have agreed to deepen cooperation across financial markets, with a focus on increasing cross-border investment and improving access to international capital.

The decision followed the fourth India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue, held in London on September 29, 2026. Senior officials from India’s Ministry of Finance and the UK Treasury, along with financial regulators from both countries, participated in the discussions.
A key area of discussion was capital market connectivity. India and the UK agreed to explore opportunities for greater cross-border investment, including equity and bond listings through the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC).
The initiative could help Indian companies access international capital while strengthening links between Indian and UK financial markets. Both sides agreed to identify priority areas for future cooperation ahead of the next Economic and Financial Dialogue.
The dialogue also covered insurance, pensions, asset management, sustainable finance and fintech. Both countries discussed regulatory cooperation and opportunities to support greater participation by financial institutions in each other’s markets.
India highlighted its experience in scaling fintech adoption and financial inclusion through digital public infrastructure, including digital identity, digital payments, central bank digital currencies and data-exchange frameworks.
The two sides also discussed the opportunities and risks linked to artificial intelligence in financial services, as well as cybersecurity, financial fraud and operational resilience.
India and the UK reaffirmed their support for the G20 Roadmap for Enhancing Cross-Border Payments and discussed measures to reduce friction and improve efficiency in international payments.
The countries also stressed the broader importance of the Financial Markets Dialogue in supporting sustainable economic growth, deeper trade and investment ties and resilient financial markets. The discussions come as both sides work to advance their strengthened bilateral relationship and implement the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which entered into force on July 15, 2026.
