Russia has honoured DRDO veteran Sudhir Kumar Mishra for his contribution to the success of the BrahMos missile project, a major India-Russia defence collaboration. Mishra, a former Director General of BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited, received the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia Medal “For Distinction” on October 2.

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov highlighted Mishra’s personal contribution to the BrahMos programme and described him as one of the key minds from India and Russia who helped build the joint venture.
The award comes as BrahMos marks the 25th anniversary of its first missile test launch. The programme is a joint venture between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya and has become one of the most prominent examples of India-Russia defence and technology cooperation.
Mishra also played an important role in integrating the BrahMos missile with India’s Sukhoi fighter aircraft. He currently serves as an adviser to the Director General of DRDO’s Department of Scientific Development.
The BrahMos programme has also emerged as an important part of India’s growing defence export push. India has agreements to supply BrahMos systems to the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia, with deliveries already completed to the Philippines.
The recognition of Mishra comes at a time when BrahMos is expanding its international footprint while continuing to strengthen India-Russia defence cooperation.
