Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is targeting profit after tax of more than ₹2,000 crore in FY27, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said. The Navratna public sector company reported standalone PAT of ₹1,352.92 crore on operating revenue of ₹5,778.1 crore in FY26. Sonowal said SCI had already crossed ₹600 crore in PAT in the first quarter of the current fiscal, putting it on track to exceed the ₹2,000 crore target.

SCI currently operates a fleet of 58 vessels and is planning a significant expansion. According to Sonowal, the company is working with petroleum-sector companies to create joint ventures, with proceeds expected to help procure more than 34 additional vessels. SCI is also collaborating with CONCOR and four major ports to add 51 container vessels to its fleet.
The planned expansion comes as India looks to strengthen its domestic shipping capacity and logistics infrastructure. The government is also promoting domestic container manufacturing through the ₹10,000-crore Container Manufacturing Assistance Scheme announced in the FY27 Budget. The scheme aims to increase domestic container production, reduce import dependence and strengthen India’s trade and logistics network.
SCI’s expansion is expected to increase its presence across different segments of the shipping industry while supporting India’s broader efforts to build maritime capacity. The company’s latest profit target and fleet plans come amid a wider government push to expand domestic shipping and container manufacturing capabilities.
