Cochin Shipyard Ltd is set to acquire a 23 per cent stake in Netherlands-based ship design and engineering company Conoship International Holding BV for €2.30 million, or around ₹25 crore. The proposed acquisition is expected to strengthen Cochin Shipyard’s presence in the European maritime market and expand its access to advanced ship design capabilities.

The transaction is expected to be completed within about two months, according to the company’s disclosure. Cochin Shipyard said the investment will help it enter European coastal and short-sea shipping markets with advanced design solutions.
Conoship International has experience in designing a wide range of vessels, including general cargo ships, tankers, dredgers, ferries and offshore vessels. The company provides ship design and engineering services to shipyards and maritime businesses across different markets.
As part of the partnership, Cochin Shipyard and Conoship will also explore opportunities in emerging marine technologies. These include alternative fuels for short-sea vessels, coastal shipping and inland waterways, along with other services across the marine, shipping and offshore sectors.
The acquisition is part of Cochin Shipyard’s broader strategy to strengthen its international presence and gain access to European ship design expertise. The company’s board had approved the acquisition of the 23 per cent stake earlier this year with the objective of establishing a footprint in the European market.
The move comes as Cochin Shipyard continues to expand its capabilities across shipbuilding, ship repair and emerging maritime technologies. The company has also been pursuing partnerships aimed at developing new solutions for electric mobility, marine electrification and energy storage.
The Conoship investment is expected to provide Cochin Shipyard with access to European design capabilities while creating opportunities for joint work on new vessel technologies and alternative-fuel solutions.
