India is seeking to expand its semiconductor ambitions into a broader domestic ecosystem as SEMICON India 2026 brings global chipmakers, policymakers, investors, researchers and industry leaders together in New Delhi.
The three-day event, being held under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,” is taking place at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka from September 17 to 19. The event is organised by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and SEMI.
The focus is moving beyond chip manufacturing and design to include semiconductor packaging, testing, equipment, materials, research and skilled talent. This wider value chain is important as countries and companies seek more diversified and resilient semiconductor supply chains.
SEMICON India 2026 features more than 600 exhibitors, including around 300 international companies, across 15,000 square metres of exhibition space. More than 150 speakers are expected to participate in discussions on the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
India has also seen progress in semiconductor manufacturing and assembly. The CG Semi facility in Sanand, Gujarat, has begun commercial production, with an initial annual capacity of 20 crore semiconductor units and a targeted capacity of 500 crore units annually.
Meanwhile, Tata Electronics is developing a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, with an investment of more than ₹91,000 crore and planned capacity of 50,000 wafers per month.
With manufacturing projects, global partnerships and supporting capabilities developing together, SEMICON India 2026 highlights India’s effort to build a more comprehensive semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
