Air India Express has introduced new uniforms for its cabin crew and frontline teams, bringing together modern airline styling with design influences from India’s diverse textile traditions. Rolled out from September 1, the uniforms are being introduced across cabin crew, airport services, aviation security and flight operations teams as part of the airline’s evolving visual identity and focus on enhancing the guest experience.
The collection is built around Air India Express’ signature Xpress Blue, complemented by Xpress Orange accents to create a consistent brand identity across aircraft, airports and onboard services. The designs draw inspiration from Tamil Nadu’s Kanjeevaram, Himachal Pradesh’s Pattu, Gujarat’s Patola, Assam’s Gamosa and Madhya Pradesh’s Bagh, incorporating elements of these traditions through contemporary patterns and detailing rather than directly replicating traditional clothing.
For female cabin crew and frontline employees, the collection features contemporary silhouettes inspired by the traditional kurti, paired with tailored jackets, scarves and pocket squares. The uniforms are designed to combine Indian cultural influences with a polished corporate appearance while remaining practical for everyday airline operations.
The new collection is an extension of Air India Express’ Tales of India initiative, which has previously showcased Indian art, crafts and cultural heritage through distinctive aircraft tail designs. The airline has now carried the same cultural theme into its passenger-facing teams, creating a visual connection between its aircraft, airport presence and onboard experience.
Comfort and functionality have also been considered in the design. The uniforms are made using banana crepe fabric, which Air India Express says offers breathability, durability, comfort and an elegant drape suitable for demanding operational environments.
Air India Express designer Pooja Krishnan led the design of the women’s uniforms for cabin crew, airport services, aviation security and flight operations teams. The men’s cabin crew uniform was developed in collaboration with Trent Limited. According to the airline, the new collection reflects the energy, professionalism and warmth of its frontline employees while combining cultural authenticity with comfort and functionality.
