Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has arrived in the United States for a six-day visit focused on the G20 Finance Ministers’ meeting, investment opportunities and stronger economic ties with the US.

Sitharaman reached Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Thursday after completing a three-day visit to Canada. She was received by Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Namgya C Khampa and India’s Consul General in Chicago Somnath Ghosh.
Her visit to the US is part of a nine-day trip to Canada and the United States, which is scheduled to end on September 2.
Meetings With US Investors and Business Leaders
During her stay in Chicago, Sitharaman will meet investors and senior business leaders at a roundtable discussion.
The talks will focus on India’s investment opportunities, the country’s economic outlook and ways to increase business and investment partnerships between India and the United States.
She will also meet CEOs, presidents and senior representatives of private companies.
Sitharaman is scheduled to visit the Polsky Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago. Discussions there will cover entrepreneurship, innovation, technology commercialisation and stronger links between India’s growing startup ecosystem and global innovation networks.
She will also interact with members of the Indian community in Chicago.
India to Participate in G20 Finance Meeting
Sitharaman will lead India’s delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
The meeting will take place on August 31 and September 1 under the US presidency. Finance ministers, central bank governors and senior economic officials from G20 countries will discuss global economic and financial issues.
The meeting follows the G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies meeting scheduled for August 29 and 30.
India’s participation will provide an opportunity to contribute to discussions on global economic growth, financial stability, international financial cooperation and challenges facing both developed and emerging economies.
Investor Meetings in New York
After Chicago and the G20 meeting, Sitharaman will travel to New York.
She will hold an Investor Roundtable with CEOs and senior representatives of major New York-based companies. She will also have one-to-one meetings with senior executives from the financial sector.
The discussions will focus on investment opportunities in India, the country’s economic and financial environment and ways to strengthen financial and institutional ties between India and the US.
NASDAQ will also host Sitharaman for a bell-ringing ceremony during her New York visit.
The visit will give her an opportunity to gain insights into technology-driven financial markets and the growing connection between technology and capital markets.
Earlier Visit to Canada
Before travelling to the US, Sitharaman spent three days in Canada from August 25.
She attended the first India-Canada Economic and Financial Dialogue in Toronto and met investors and companies from sectors including energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals.
The discussions focused on improving economic and financial cooperation and creating more investment and business opportunities between India and Canada.
Her Canada and US visit is aimed at strengthening India’s global economic engagement, attracting investment and expanding financial and business partnerships.
