Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has approved the setting up of India’s first dedicated Quantum and AI University campus in Amaravati.

The campus will be established by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), The Hindu BusinessLine reported.
The decision was taken at a Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting chaired by Naidu.
The proposed campus will be built on 8.5 acres at an estimated cost of ₹730.7 crore over five years. The project is expected to be fully funded through a Government of India grant from MeitY.
Focus on Quantum Technology and AI
The university will focus on quantum technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and other deep-tech areas.
It will combine education, research, skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Academic and skill-development programmes are expected to begin in September 2026 at a temporary facility at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur while the permanent campus is being developed.
Courses and Facilities
The campus plans to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma and executive programmes.
Courses will cover areas such as quantum computing, quantum communication and security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, semiconductor fabrication, chip design, VLSI, ATMP, embedded systems and high-performance computing.
A Quantum Research, Innovation and Incubation Block covering around 1.2 lakh square feet is also planned.
The campus will have facilities for quantum computing and communication, quantum photonics, quantum security, cryogenic systems, high-performance computing, cleanrooms, nano-fabrication, semiconductor technology, chip design, data centres and startup incubation.
Thousands to Receive Training
The project aims to train around 8,250 learners over five years.
This includes 1,650 students through formal degree programmes and 6,600 through skill development and certification courses.
Annual student intake is expected to reach around 3,913 learners by the fifth year.
NIELIT is also planning collaborations with IIT Tirupati, IIIT Sri City, Andhra University and JNTU institutions for academic programmes, research and technology development.
The initiative is aligned with the National Quantum Mission, IndiaAI Mission and India Semiconductor Mission, supporting India’s plans to build capabilities in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and other advanced technologies.
