The government is planning to offer 11 Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports to private players under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
According to reports, the airports will be grouped into five bundles for the bidding process. The move is aimed at attracting private investment and improving operational efficiency, infrastructure and passenger services at the airports.

Under the proposal, Amritsar and Kangra-Gaggal airports will be one bundle while Varanasi, Gaya and Kushinagar will be another. Airports at Bhubaneswar and Hubballi will be in one group, and Raipur and Aurangabad airports will be in another bundle. Also, Tiruchirappalli and Tirupati airports will be in a separate bundle.
Private participation could also help modernise airport facilities and introduce greater efficiency in operations.
The planned airport privatisation push comes as India’s aviation sector continues to expand rapidly, creating growing demand for modern airport infrastructure and efficient passenger services.
The initiative could open up new opportunities for airport operators, infrastructure companies and investors while supporting the government’s broader strategy of increasing private participation in the aviation sector.
