India’s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered the MS Maria, a 7,000 DWT ice-class multi-purpose vessel, to German shipping company HS Schiffahrts UG. The vessel is the second in an eight-vessel HS EcoFreighter series.
The formal delivery and acceptance protocol was completed in Kochi, with CSL Director of Operations S Harikrishnan and HS Schiffahrts Director Heinz Josef Schepers signing the documents.
Designed by Netherlands-based Groot Ship Design and constructed under DNV classification standards, MS Maria features a hydrodynamic profile designed to reduce wave resistance, improve performance and lower fuel consumption.
The vessel is capable of navigating ice-prone waters and can transport project cargo, heavy machinery, steel coils, dry bulk, timber, paper, grain, coal and dangerous cargoes. Its adaptable cargo hold includes six movable panels, grain bulkheads and a tween-deck arrangement.
The delivery adds to Cochin Shipyard’s growing international footprint and highlights its capabilities in building modern, versatile and eco-friendly commercial vessels. CSL is currently working on the remaining six EcoFreighter vessels in the series.
