The development of National Highway 66 in Kerala is expected to reach a major milestone by May 2028, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said.
The NH-66 corridor is being widened and upgraded across Kerala as part of a major infrastructure push aimed at improving road connectivity, reducing travel time and supporting the movement of people and goods.
The project is particularly significant for Kerala, where NH-66 serves as a crucial north-south transport corridor connecting several major cities and towns along the state’s western coast.
Once completed, the upgraded highway is expected to provide better connectivity, improved road safety and smoother freight movement, while supporting trade, tourism and regional economic activity.
The expansion is also expected to ease congestion on existing road networks and improve connectivity between Kerala’s major commercial centres, ports and urban areas.
The project has involved multiple construction packages across the state, with work progressing at different stages along the corridor.
Gadkari’s latest timeline provides a clearer target for completing the remaining stretches of the highway, which has been one of Kerala’s most closely watched infrastructure projects.
The completion of NH-66 is expected to significantly transform Kerala’s road infrastructure and mobility landscape, creating a faster and more efficient transport corridor across the state.
