Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is making a major push into automotive electronics, committing around ₹5,000 crore over the next five years to build capabilities in a sector increasingly driven by electrification, software and advanced vehicle technologies.

The investment will be led through L&T’s electronics businesses and is aimed at developing an integrated ecosystem for electric vehicle components, semiconductors, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and other automotive technologies.
L&T is positioning the business to become a homegrown technology and component supplier for India’s rapidly evolving automobile industry. The company plans to combine engineering, manufacturing and product-development capabilities to serve emerging mobility requirements.
The expansion comes as India’s automotive sector moves steadily towards electric vehicles, connected cars and software-defined vehicles. Increasing electronics content in modern vehicles is creating opportunities for domestic suppliers that can provide locally manufactured components and systems.
L&T’s plans include building advanced manufacturing capabilities and strengthening research and product development. The investment is also expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to reports.
The company has already been building its automotive technology capabilities. Its electronics arm, L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS), has manufacturing operations in Coimbatore and is expanding across areas including mobility, power electronics, industrial automation and electronics systems.
L&T has also partnered with EVR Motors to develop and manufacture next-generation EV traction motors for the Indian market, covering applications ranging from two- and three-wheelers to passenger and commercial vehicles.
The company’s automotive semiconductor business is simultaneously working on solutions for power electronics, automotive applications, data centres and industrial systems, highlighting L&T’s broader strategy to build a domestic electronics ecosystem.
L&T’s entry comes as India seeks to reduce dependence on imported electronics and strengthen domestic manufacturing across strategic sectors. Government initiatives such as the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme and automotive PLI programme are also encouraging investment in local production.
With its ₹5,000 crore commitment, L&T is looking to capture a larger share of the growing automotive electronics opportunity while positioning itself as a key Indian supplier for the next generation of connected and electric vehicles.
